TACOMA, Wash. - Sydney Cameron rolled to a win at No. 1 singles but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team had its home opener spoiled at the hands of Northwest Conference rival George Fox University, falling 8-1 on Saturday at the Sprinker Rec Center.
In doubles Cameron and
Hannah Jeffries came up short 8-5 at No. 1 doubles while at No. 2
Bayley Gochanour and
Taylor Stokes battled before ending up on the short side of an 8-6 scoreline.
In singles, Cameron downed the Bruins' (2-0, 1-0 NWC) Sophia Lawrence, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 1 position. Gochanour came up short, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 while Stokes kept things close in a, 6-3, 6-4, setback at No. 4 singles.
"It was a tough day for the Lutes in our match against George Fox," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell.
"We came out strong on the doubles court but couldn't hold the momentum. I was proud of how the student-athletes held their composure and continued to fight for every point all day."
The Lutes (1-2, 0-2 NWC) hit the road next Saturday, trekking to Salem, Oregon to face Willamette University.
