Women's Tennis Bounced by Bucs, 7-2

SPOKANE, Wash. - Taylor Stokes and Meggie Burnett each picked up wins in singles play but the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team came up short, 7-2, against host Whitworth University in a Northwest Conference dual match on Saturday afternoon at the Scotford Tennis Center.

Stokes prevailed 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 at No. 4 singles against Whitworth's Froukje Lakerveld while Meggie Burnett claimed the, 6-2, 6-3, decision over the Pirates' Meredith Bedford at No. 6 singles.

Bayley Gochanour battled at No. 3 singles, falling 7-6 (10-8) in the opening set before dropping the second 6-0.

In doubles play, Gochanour and Stokes hung tough at the No. 2 spot but came up on the wrong side of an 8-5 scoreline.

"It was a tough Whitworth team we faced today," said Head Coach Cheri Campbell. "Taylor and Meggie led the team with their singles wins and we're excited to get better and back on the court tomorrow."

The Lutes (3-4, 2-4 NWC) and Pirates (4-5, 3-2 NWC) meet again tomorrow at 10 a.m. in a non-conference match.
