NEWBERG, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis team returned to the court over the weekend, sending four individuals to compete at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional hosted by George Fox University from Friday through Monday.

Michael Campbell led the way for the Lutes, advancing to the round of 16 in the singles main draw. The senior opened the tournament by rallying to the, 2-6, 6-0, 12-10, win over Whitman College's Noah Baker before disposing of Pacific University's Matt Weiler by a, 6-2, 6-2, scoreline. Campbell's run in the main draw came to the end with a, 7-5, 6-3, setback to George Fox University's Camden Camacho.

"Overall, a great weekend to compete against some of the Conference's top teams, 3 of our 6 entrants drew the 1st or 2nd seed first round so we were a bit unlucky in how the draw shook out. Michael Campbell showed a lot of grit in staving off some jitters and a match point in his first round against Whitman. He steadied himself and had an impressive win in round 2 against Pacific. He served for the set twice in his match against GF but couldn't close it out against a very good player," said Head Coach Paul Koessler

Alex Richter fell, 6-1, 6-2, in the main singles draw before making a run in the consolation bracket, earning a, 4-3, 4-3, win over Whitworth University's Ethan Warring and a, 1-4, 4-3, 10-7, decision over Pacific's Cooper Rich before stumbling, 4-1, 4-2, to Whitman's Aaron Yuan in the consolation quarterfinals.

"Alex Richter competed well in the consolation winning 2 matches before losing and Caleb Grass played very well in a loss, both at the hands of Whitman,"

In doubles, Michael Campbell and Derek Stone fell 8-5 to Trent Beckman and Jackson Boxall of the University Puget Sound in opening round of the main doubles draw before regrouping in the consolation draw, earning an 8-4 win over Lewis & Clark College's Alberto Dos Santos and Atticus Pollack and earning a win over Pacific University's Osman Chan and Rush Williams before withdrawing from the tournament.

"It was a great learning experience for our team and we look forward to getting back to our training to prepare for the upcoming Spring season."

The Lutes open up the spring NWC slate on March 6, hosting Lewis & Clark College at the Sprinker Recreation Center.
