SEATTLE, Wash. - Two-time National Champion
Bailey Forsyth opened the 2022 season with a bang, one of nine Pacific Lutheran University track & field student-athletes to compete at the UW Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Huskies' Dempsey Indoor Facility.
Forsyth was the star of the show on Friday evening, finishing sixth overall amongst the 52-competitor field in the 200-meters in her first competitive meet since winning national titles in both the 100-meters and 200-meters at the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The senior clocked a time of 25.34, a performance that currently sits as the 10th fastest converted time in NCAA Division III this season and is three-hundredths of a second off the best time in the nation.
Forsyth continued to impress on Saturday, clocking a 7.81 in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter dash before shaving off a hundredth of a second in the final, logging a time of 7.80 to secure seventh overall. Her time currently is the seventh fastest 60 time in Division III this season.
"It was fun to see Bailey make her 2022 debut and post some great opening marks," said Head Coach
Adam Frye.
"We're so grateful to have her back for another season."
Competing on Friday was
Kayden Hulquist in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing 10th in 9.31,
Grady Lemma in the 60-meter hurdles (12th in 8.88) and
Keola Sanchez placing 15th in the 200-meters (23.27).
On Saturday,
Corey Solomon was third in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 3 ¼ inches while
Blake Leahy was ninth overall. On the women's side,
Kristine Nguyen cleared a personal record height of 11' 2 ½" to place 10th overall and first among D3 competitors.
"Kayden had a great Lute debut and it was awesome to see Kristine PR to become the No. 2 vaulter all-time indoors or out."
Alec Serrao was 22nd overall in the 60-meter dash, stopping the clock in 7.35.
"It was great to see some of our men make their PLU and season debuts. This experience will be big in their preparation for future meets. Corey had a really strong finish in the vault and it was great to see Keola open faster in the 200 than he did outdoors in 2021."
The Lutes take next weekend off before trekking to Spokane for the Whitworth Invitational on Feb. 12.
