Edmonds Paces Lutes in 75-64 Setback to Bruins

NEWBERG, Ore. - Ava Edmonds tallied a career-high 22 points and was one of three Lutes in double figures but it wasn't enough on Saturday inside Miller Gymnasium, stumbling 75-64 to Northwest Conference rival George Fox University.

The visiting Lutes trailed by just six with 7:20 remaining in the game after a made free throw from Taylor Schmidtke but the Bruins answered the bell, draining a pair of treys over the next two minutes to extend their buffer to 13 points. PLU whittled it back down to seven on an Edmonds three with 33 ticks left but GFU made six straight free throws to hold on for the win.

GFU scored the opening nine points of the game before the pesky Lutes clawed back, scoring 13 of the next 18 to close within a single-point on a Maddie Plevyak jumper. George Fox would hold an eight-point edge after the first quarter before taking a 40-27 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

"The team really responded in the second half. Overall we won the rebounding battle and won the fourth quarter. I can't really ask more effort from this group, their effort and love for their teammates is there win or lose," said Head Coach Tiffany Twiddy.

Edmonds finished with 22 points and six rebounds to lead the Lutes, making nine of her ten shots from the charity stripe. Josie Napoli added 15 points and five assists with Plevyak contributing 11 points and six rebounds. Stacie Spahr led the Lutes on the glass with seven boards.

Pacific Lutheran hits the road again on Wednesday, returning to Oregon to face Linfield University. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m.
