Harmon Tabbed to Run Tennis Programs

TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University athletic department and Athletic Director Mike Snyder announced the hiring of Michael Harmon as the Head Coach for the Lute men's and women's tennis programs.

"We're excited to be welcoming Michael to Luteville as the full-time head coach of both the men's and women's tennis programs," said Athletic Director Mike Snyder

"Michael's experience as a Division III student-athlete and his extensive resume as a tennis pro and coach make him the ideal candidate to lead the two programs. The tennis programs have a storied history, winning a combined 44 Northwest Conference Championships, and we look forward to seeing Michael build both squads back up into title contenders."

Harmon joins Luteville with extensive experience in the tennis industry, with 15 years of coaching experience working with players from various age groups. That includes, serving as an assistant coach last fall for Mesa Community College in Arizona and a three-year stint as the head coach at Saint Pius X High School in Kansas City, Missouri. While at St. Pius, Harmon guided the Warriors to a 56-4 record.

Harmon has worked as a self-employed tennis pro since 2012, while also serving as a tennis pro at DC Ranch Village in Scottsdale, Arizona the past year. Harmon's experience includes stints as a tennis instructor at Scottsdale Ranch Park and as head tennis pro at Clayview Country Club.

"I'm very excited to become the new Head Tennis Coach at Pacific Lutheran University," said Harmon.

"I look forward to getting to know everyone on campus and creating an environment of athletic and academic success this season and in the years to come. Go Lutes!"

A prolific player, Harmon was a seven-time All-Saint Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) selection at Westminster College, and was named to the SLIAC All-Decade Team for 2000-2009. Harmon continues to play competitively, and is one of the top tennis players in his age group in the nation.

Harmon holds a bachelor's degree in international business from Westminster College (Mo.) and Queen Mary College of London (U.K.) and holds a master's degree in international business from Oklahoma City University.

Harmon will begin his duties as head tennis coach on Sept. 1.
