Official NWC Release
HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Northwest Conference recognized its weekly award winners on Monday with Pacific Lutheran University student-athlete
Brandin Riedel securing NWC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Â
The junior from Olympia, Washington secures the honor after helping the Lutes to a pair of wins last week, averaging 21.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Â
Riedel was the hero in Tuesday's 81-80 nailbiting win over crosstown rival University of Puget Sound. The junior hit a game-winning layup with 4.1 seconds remaining and finished the game with 18 points and eight rebounds to extend PLU's win streak to nine straight against its intracity rival.
Â
On Saturday, Riedel poured on a season-high 25 points while grabbing 11 rebounds in a 90-76 blowout win over Pacific University. It was Riedel's first career double-double. The Olympia native finished the week shooting 67 percent (18-for-27) from the field and keeps PLU (9-8, 3-5 NWC) in the hunt for a spot in the NWC Tournament heading into the second half of conference play.
Â
This is the second time this season a Lute has earned NWC Player of the Week with teammate
Jordan Thomas getting the nod on Jan. 3.Â
Â
Riedel and the Lutes are back in action on Friday night, facing Whitworth University at 8 p.m. in Spokane, Washington.Â
