Cranch and Fairbairn Lead Lutes in NWC Scholar-Athlete Awards

 
HILLSBORO, Ore. --- Pacific Lutheran University student-athletes Claire Cranch (Women's Swimming) and Larson Fairbairn (Men's Track and Field) earned Northwest Conference First Team Scholar-Athlete honors meanwhile 185 total PLU student-athletes earned Scholar-Athlete awards.
 
A total of 185 Lute student-athletes earned Scholar-Athlete awards for the 2022-23 academic year for maintaining at least a 3.50 grade point average while competing in an entire championship season. 2022-23 marks the seventh-straight season where at least 140 student-athletes earned Northwest Conference Scholar-Athlete honors. In 2021-22, 181 Lutes earned such honors.
 
Six-time defending NWC Champion Women's Soccer lead the way for the Lutes with 22 student-athletes earning NWC Scholar-Athlete honors while Men's Track and Field trailed close behind with 21 honorees.
 
Cranch and Fairbairn were recognized as First Team All-NWC Scholar-Athletes alongside 16 other NWC student-athletes.
 
Cranch qualified for the A and B finals at the NWC Championship in 2022-23 season. Previously, Cranch earned Freshman of the Year, MVP, and Coach's Award honors while breaking school records in the 2019 season. The Nursing major held a 3.86 grade point average and earned the 2023 George Fischer Scholar-Athlete Lutey award.
 
Fairbairn, a native of Ferndale, Washington, finished third in the hammer and discus at the 2023 NWC Championships. Fairbairn is also an eight-time All-NWC, USTFCCCA All-America, CSC Academic All-District, USTFCCCA Outdoor and Indoor All-Region honoree. The Elementary Education major held a 3.98 grade point average and graduated Summa Cum Laude from PLU in 2023. He also made the PLU Dean's List seven times, NWC Scholar-Athlete three times, and was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma in 2022.

Baseball (15): Ashton Barton, Jonathan Cohen, Lukas DeLisle, Spencer Howell, Hayden Kaiser, Ethan Keintz, Trevor Mason, Adrian Murillo, Wyatt Norris, Charles Olson, Sam Richardson, Andrew Schmitz, Gunnar Sebright, Jake Sulya, and Rutger Youch.
 
Barton, Howell, and Schmitz earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition.
 
Men's Basketball (7): JT Fenz, William Johnston, Drew Kraft, Dirk Plakinger, Dennis Thomas, Neriiya Tor, and Calvin Wing.
 
Women's Basketball (8): Ashley Akamine, Breeze Bartle, Kaylie Bracy, Katy Cook, Sydney Reisner, Taylor Schmidtke, Stacie Spahr, and Emi Wada.
 
Reisner earned Player of the Year honors.
 
Men's Cross Country (11): Erick Arcos, Owen Ladining, Jonah Maier, Jonathan Ochoa, Trey Robak, Daniel Samson, Andrew Sandoval, Kai Sorensen, Ryan Stracke, Samuel Zielke, and Daniel Zimmer.
 
Ladining, Robak, and Stracke earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition.
 
Women's Cross Country (3): Annika Deazley, Adalia Olmos, and Alexia Sioda.
 
Football (12): Jesse Canda, Nico Golla, Kellen Meade, Lucio Penaloza, Cooper Perez, Logan Rodriguez, Jacob Schuh, Samuel Shigematsu, Logan Shimskey, Nicholas Skinner, George Sonko, and Tyler Williams.
 
Golla and Skinner earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition.
 
Men's Golf (1): Josh Clogston
 
Women's Golf (2): Emily Fisher and Rayleah Trice.
 
Fisher earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition.
 
Women's Rowing (11): Mara Clay, Jessie Dougherty, Chloe Froeschner, Julia Gonzales-Wolf, Corinna Grieves, Elizabeth Hawes, Jessica Heinauer, Adriana Martinez, Hannah Miyasaki, Magdalyn Nieberger, and Allison Sheflo.
 
Dougherty earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition.
 
Men's Soccer (15): Mattias Anderson, Gabriel Arcas, Vincenzo D'Onofrio, Cole Dobson, Samuel Erickson, Michael Kelly, Joseph Kraut, Ayden Lawes, Vasil Mladenov, Christian Pineda, Jordan Ross, Elijah Singleton, Cole Stewart, Eli Visser, and Alexander White.
 
Dobson and White earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition while Dobson also earned Player of the Year honors.
 
Women's Soccer (22): Sawyer Anderson, Olivia Boehm, Haley Bolen, Kaylie Brown, Joelle Buck, Julia Causbie, Hannah Cecil, Cecilia Coca-Aitken, Jennifer Ellis, Marina Foster, Abbey Goetz, Kayden Hulquist, Sophia Jeter, Carmen Kiewert, Alyssa Leong, Katelyn Mcdougal, Ella Merte, Meghan Michels, Corissa Olson, Riley Shaver, Allison Tattar, and Abigail Winkler.
 
Causbie, Cecil, Leong, and Merte received First or Second team All-NWC recognition meanwhile Merte earned Player of the Year honors.
 
Softball (14): Cailey Collado, Kassidi Dean, Mari Foster, Paola Garcia, Molly House, Megan Landes, Erin McGrath, Arabella Perez, Gillian Renzullo, Amaya Smith, Kayla Terlecki, Rachel Treves, Rylie-Ann Wada, and Cassandra Wright.
 
Foster, Garcia, McGrath, Wada, and Wright earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition while Garcia earned Player of the Year honors.
 
Men's Swimming (6): Henri Coronado-Volta, Charles Cutter, Luke Farang, Na'inoa Loo, Tyler Tanaka, and Benjamin Thompson.
 
Loo and Tanaka earned First or Second team All-NWC recognition.
 
Women's Swimming (10): Makenzie Chan-Orcutt, Sidney Chan-Orcutt, Claire Cranch, Annika Eisele, Elizabeth Kamke, Chung Eun Kim, Maya Lovre, Michelle Owen, Alisa Sokolova, and Malia Wisham.
