Complete D3football.com Team of the Week
TACOMA, Wash. — Pacific Lutheran University defensive end
Nico Golla was part of a swarming defensive unit that made life miserable for the California Lutheran University offense on Saturday. That performance earned Golla recognition nationally on Tuesday, securing a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Golla is one of 11 defensive players and 26 total players (11 offense, 11 defense, and four specialists) to be recognized to the Team of the Week. Of the 26 players, Golla is the lone player representing the West Coast.
The senior defensive end earns a spot on the team after registering three sacks for -13 yards in PLU's 37-27 victory over the Kingsmen. Golla and the defense racked up eight sacks on Cal Lu signal caller JP Andrade on Saturday while turning the team one dimensional after limiting the ground game to just 12 total yards on 25 attempts (0.5 yards per attempt).
Golla isn't the only standout from Saturday with linebacker
Kalen Davis-White earning Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. A native of Puyallup, Washington, Golla is the first Lute to win national player of the week honors this fall. Last season, punter
Max Boekenoogen (Nov. 1), linebacker
Ashton Barton (Oct. 11), and cornerback
Jared Elwin (Oct. 4) all earned National Team of the Week recognition.Â
The Lutes (1-2) have a bye week this Saturday before beginning NWC play on the road on Sept. 30 against Whitworth University.Â
