COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Eleven different Lutes drained a bucket on Saturday but the scoring distribution was no match for host Colorado College and center Zoe Tomlinson who scored 29 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team fell 67-47 to the Tigers inside Reid Arena.
Kasidy Javernick scored the opening bucket but the host Tigers (6-1) scored the next seven straight to take an early 7-2 lead. The Lutes (2-5) tied the game, getting a three from
Brooke Samura and a
Sydney Reisner layup with 3:15 left in the first quarter. Colorado College led by just a single point with 98 seconds left in the opening quarter after
Ashley Akamine hit a jumper but the Tigers would score the next 10 points, part of a larger 21-2 scoring surge to install a 33-13 lead with 4:50 left in the second quarter.
Pacific Lutheran reduced the gap to just 11 at the halftime intermission, closing the second half on a 12-3 run, including threes from
Taylor Schmidtke and Reisner and a tip-in from
Stacie Spahr just before the break to make it 36-25.
Colorado College enjoyed at least an 11-point buffer the entire second half en route to the win.
"This was a great test for us," said Head Coach
Lee Aduddell.
"Colorado College is a really good team and they exposed some weaknesses that we'll work to clean up as we finish out our non-conference schedule."
PLU finishes its Colorado trip with a 1-1 record after earning a 64-58 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday, a game that saw four Lutes finish in double figures with
Brooke Samura and
Kasidy Javernick both earning double-doubles.
Schmidtke paced the Lutes on Saturday, scoring 12 points while Resiner added eight. The duo were among the 11 Lutes to score a bucket in the game.
Brandie Tobin dished out a team-high five assists while
Jaida Wood had a team-high seven rebounds with
Stacie Spahr adding five.
CC's Zoe Tomlinson was a force inside, finishing with 29 points and 18 rebounds.
PLU enjoyed a 16-11 edge in bench points but were outmuscled in the paint with the Tigers owning a 40-14 advantage in points in the paint and a 19-6 edge in points off turnovers.
The Lutes will take the next two weeks off, returning to the court on Dec. 17 with an exhibition against Division II Seattle Pacific University. Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m.
