SPOKANE, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University woman's soccer team traveled to Whitworth University and came out victorious 1-0 off a late game-winner from
Liv Olson Sunday afternoon.
The Lutes have now won the last 12 matches consecutively against the Pirates outscoring them 23-4. PLU improves to 6-2-4 overall and 6-0-2 in Northwest Conference play sitting on top of the table in first place.
"This was a tough battle in wet and rainy conditions, so it was just going to be one of those days," Head Coach
Seth Spidahl mentioned. "It was a hard game, but again Olo (
Liv Olson) found a way to latch on to the ball in the box after great services in by Joslyn and Katelyn. Happy to get the three points today. We talked about finishing the first half of conference games strong and I'm proud of my players for finding a way to finish games."
A game early on that featured both sides jostling for momentum, the Lutes led in total shots 7-5 in the first half. A breakthrough would come in the 77th minute where the Lutes had a corner kick that was played in to
Nahe Bukoski who flicked a header to
Katelyn McDougal that finally looped a ball far post that Olson put away one-time wth a header resulting in the game-winner.
Olson has now scored in three straight games for Pacific Lutheran including three game-winning goals.
Abby Winkler gets the win in goal logging all 90 minutes and finishing with three total saves. Winkler secured her fifth shutout of the season and 24th of her career.
Lutes return to the pitch on Saturday, October 18th as they play Lewis & Clark College on the road with kick-off prompt for 12 PM.
