Schwetz Strikes Again, Extending Lute Win Streak to Five

NEWBERG, Ore. — Tia Schwetz did it again. The sophomore scored the game winning goal for the second consecutive day, lifting the eight-time defending Northwest Conference Champion Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer squad to a 1-0 victory over George Fox University at the Austin Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Schwetz entered the weekend searching for her first collegiate goal. She ends the weekend with two game-winning goals, lifting PLU (8-2-4, 8-0-2 NWC) to a pair of 1-0 results to maintain its spot in first place in the NWC standings and extend the squad's win streak to five games.

Schwetz's game winner happened in the 17th minute. PLU dominated the host Bruins (0-9-6, 0-8-4 NWC), outshooting George Fox 20-6 over the 90 minute contest, including owning a 14-0 edge in shots in the second half. The Lutes took six of the seven shots on goal and took all seven of the game's corner kicks.

Abby Winkler made one save to net her eighth shutout of the season and her third in as many games. The senior has now gone 340 minutes without allowing a goal, a streak spanning across four games and seven halves of play. GFU's Emily Robey made six saves and allowed one goal in 90 minutes of work.

The Lutes are back on the pitch on Wednesday, squaring off against crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound who sits in second place in the conference standings. Kickoff at UPS's Baker Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
