TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team opened the floodgates early scoring two first half goals against the Willmette University Bearcats claiming a 2-0 Norhwest Conference win on Sunday Afternoon.
PLU remains unblemished in NWC conference play stunting a 9-0-3 record and 9-2-5 record overall. In the series all-time, the Lutes have won or tied the last 19 matches with their last loss to the Bearcats coming in 2015.
Olivia Boehm opened up the game in the scoring column, on her birthday, for the Lutes taking a cheeky shoulder touch off a whipped in ball by
Kiana Gutierrez tucking it past the Bearcats goalkeeper in the 9th minute.
Zoe Markquart would then follow suit in the 19th minute placing a ball near post off a clever through ball from Gutierrez closing the game for PLU. The Lutes defense was stifling throughout holding Willamette to only four total shots.
Pacific Lutheran currently has the No.1 defense in the NWC only allowing .38 goals per game.
Abby Winkler and the defense notch another clean sheet shutout their 10th of the year. Winkler logged all 90 minutes and finished with one save.
PLU sits in first place currently in the NWC table and is two points ahead of University of Puget Sound.
Lutes will be back in action as they travel to Oregon on Saturday November 1st as they take on the Linfield University Wildcats with kick-off slated for 11 AM.
