TACOMA, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team defended home turf shutting out the Linfield University Wildcats 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
PLU improves their overall record to 4-2-4 and 4-0-2 in Northwest conference play. The Lutes remain unbeaten conference in play and are currently tied for 1st place with University of Puget Sound at 14 points overall..
A game that started off very even with both teams trading shots back and forth.
Liv Olson decided to be the goal party starter in the 43rd minute capitalizing off a redirect from Abby Manolivitz on a corner kick and tucking it in to the near post 1-0 PLU. Olson kept the party going scoring again in the 63rd minute off a corner kick fed in to the box by
Kiana Gutierrez. Olson, a junior captain, leads PLU in points on the season with 10 and is the leading goal scorer with five. Lutes out shot the Wildcats 14-12 with seven shots on goal to Linfield's six.
The defense of Pacific Lutheran notches their fourth shutout of the season.
Abby Winkler earned her 23rd career shutout logging all 90 minutes in goal and totaled five saves on the day. Winkler's 2nd save on the day being her 200th for her career making her the seventh goalkeeper in program history to eclipse 200 saves.
PLU resumes play on Saturday October 11th, as they travel to Whitman College to take on 4th place Blues at 12 PM.
