ORANGE, Calif. — Ten different Lutes scored buckets on Monday afternoon but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team ending up on the wrong end of a 93-47 scoreline against host Chapman University inside the Hutton Sports Center.
The game capped off a grueling season-opening road trip for the Lutes (0-3) who played three games over a four day stretch in southern California.
Â
"We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend and will use that moving forward. When adversity hits, the best teams band together and that's what we will do," said Head Coach
Lee Aduddell.
Â
"This weekend will inform us but it won't define us. We're excited to head back home and get back to work."
Â
Kate Wooten led the way with eight points while also grabbing four rebounds with an assist and a steal.
Ava Bright and
Chloe Betts both contributed seven points. Bright had six boards while Betts was a perfect three-for-three from the field.
Ghadir Ramadan led the Lutes on the glass for the third straight game, hauling in seven boards.Â
Host Chapman (1-0) led wire-to-wire, scoring five of the game's opening six points. An
Ava Bright jumper made it a one possession game but the Panthers tallied the next six points to stake an 11-3 lead with 6:27 remaining in the first. A
Marina Spitzer free throw whittled the Lute deficit to just four midway through the first quarter but was unable to get any closer as the hosts held a 22-13 edge after one quarter of play.
Â
Lilli Williams opened the second quarter with a trey only to have the Panthers match that on the ensuing possession. Chapman slowly pulled away, closing the half on a 13-3 run to enjoy a 45-27 lead at the break. Â
Â
The Lutes take the next 10 days off before hosting Corban University on Friday, November 21 in the home opener inside Olson Gymnasium.Â
