TACOMA, Wash. — College Sports Communicators announced its Academic All-District winners for the sport of men's soccer on Tuesday with four Pacific Lutheran University student-athletes being recognized.
Connor O'Brien earns Academic All-District honors for the second consecutive year while
Yuta Shimazu,
Mattias Anderson, and
Gracen Connell secure the award for the first time in their careers.
A business major,
Connor O'Brien played in 20 games this fall for the Lutes, scoring six goals and leading the team in assists with 11. The Renton, Washington native was a First Team All-Northwest Conference selection and was second on the team in points with 23.
Yuta Shimazu wins CSC Academic All-District for the first time in his career. A data science major and a First Team All-Conference selection, Shimazu played in all 20 games this year, scoring six goals with seven assists. The Kobe, Japan native finished the season with a pair of game-winning goals.
A business major,
Mattias Anderson secures Academic All-District for the first time. The Surrey, Canada native played in 18 matches and for the Lutes, anchoring a defense that posted three shutouts and allowed just 1.50 goals per game.
Gracen Connell rounded out the Lute award winners, earning Academic All-District for the first time in his career. An Earth science major, the Bellingham, Washington native played in all 20 games this season for the Lutes and was part of that stingy Lute defense that posted a trio of clean sheets.
To be eligible for the award, student-athletes needed to have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average, be sophomore standing, and have competed in 90 percent of the institution's matches or have started in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches.
The Lutes wrapped up the fall with a 13-4-3 overall record, placing runner-up in NWC play with a 12-1-3 mark.
