NWC Champion Lutes Have 6 Earn Academic All-District

TACOMA, Wash. — The nine-time defending Northwest Conference Champion Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team was recognized for its academic success, with six members of the squad securing College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.

Abby Winkler, Olivia Boehm, and Katelyn McDougal earn the award for the second consecutive year and were joined by first time winners Liv Olson, Kelan Betts, and Joslyn Kruse.

A biology major, Abby Winkler earns the award for the second straight year. A First Team All-NWC selection, the Portland, Oregon native started all 20 games this fall, posting 11 shutouts with a 0.36 goals against average. That included making 92 saves on the year.

A nursing major, Oliva Boehm is recognized as Academic All-District for the second year in a row. A Third Team All-League selection, the Bellingham, Washington native played in all 20 games, finishing with two goals and four assists.

An English major, Katelyn McDougal is honored for the second consecutive season. A First Team All-Conference student-athlete, the Wilsonville, Oregon native played in all 20 games and was part of a defensive unit that collected 13 shutouts and allowed just seven goals all season.

A Kinesiology major, Liv Olson is a first time Academic All-District selection. A First Team All-NWC honoree this fall, the Spokane, Washington native led the Lutes in scoring (10), points (21), and game-winning goals (five). 

A biology major, Kelan Betts is winning Academic All-District for the first time. The West Linn, Oregon native played in all 20 games this fall, helping the Lutes earn 13 shutouts this fall. 
 
A nursing major, Joslyn Kruse is earning the academic award for the first time in her career. An Olympia, Washington native, Kruse played in all 20 games this year and was part of a defense that allowed just seven goals on the season, including only three in conference play.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes needed to have a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average, be sophomore standing, and have competed in 90 percent of the institution's matches or have started in at least 66 percent of the institution's matches. A total of 33 student-athletes from seven of the NWC's nine institutions were recognized. 

The Lutes captured a share of their ninth straight NWC title this fall, wrapping up the season with a 12-2-6 overall record and a 12-0-4 mark in conference play.
