REDLANDS, Calif. — Kylie Griffin dropped a career-high 14 points but it wasn't enough on Saturday evening, falling 83-47 to host University of Redlands in a non-conference showdown inside Currier Gymnasium.
Griffin finished the game four-for-five from the floor, draining her one attempt from three point range and sinking five free throws. Griffin's career-high output came in just 20 minutes of action, also grabbing a steal and a rebound on the day.
Lilli Williams was the only other Lute in double figures, scoring 10 points in her second game in a PLU jersey. Wooten added eight with fve rebounds and a pair of steals.
Ghadir Ramadan led the squad in rebounding with seven while
Emi Wada had three steals.
"Games in the early part of the season expose your weaknesses and show you what you need to work on. In the first two games this season that has proven to be rebounding," said Head Coach
Lee Aduddell.
"We're looking to grow from this and finish off our opening trip strong on Monday against a tough Chapman team."
Kate Wooten scored the opening two points of the game for the Lutes (0-2) but the host Bulldogs (1-0) quickly answered with a 13-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way, enjoying a 14-point 36-22 lead at the halftime break. Redlands owned a 57-36 rebounding edge in the game and limited the Lutes to shooting just 27.9 percent (17-for-61) from the floor. Pacific Lutheran won the turnover battle (14 to 17) and played pesky defense, finishing with 11 steals.
The Lutes finish off the season-opening California trip on Monday afternoon, squaring off against Chapman University at 1 p.m.
