TACOMA, Wash. --- The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team hosted their first game under the lights on East Field, falling to the Regals of California Lutheran University on Tuesday night, 25-2.
Similar to the Lutes previous home game, they got out to an early 1-0 lead as
Taylee Alldredge nabbed the opening draw control, later taking it to the house after
Gracie Cecka picked up the ground ball off of her initial miss.
It wasn't long until the Regals would answer back, knotting the game up at 1-1 just 90-seconds later after forcing
Issabella Marchio to turn the ball over. California Lutheran took the next draw control, continuing to apply pressure with their offense, earning a free position attempt in which they executed, taking a 2-1 lead with 12:03 remaining in the opening quarter of play.
90-seconds later, the Regals forced the Lutes to turn the ball over in the midfield, resulting in a man-up goal for CLU, after
Lia Zaboski picked up a green card. PLU offense responded to the Cal Lutheran goal with some pressure of their own, but Marchio's shot was saved by the Regals keeper, thus leading to CLU to flip the field and scoring their fourth goal of the night.
Over the final 5:46 of the first, the Regals tacked on seven more unanswered goals, while their defense held the Lutes without a shot attempt to close the quarter. California Lutheran led 11-1 after 15-minutes.
Opening up the second, the Regals took the draw control, and fired a pair of shots on the Lutes net, earning the PLU goalkeeper
Kassie Diller a save. Alldredge and the Lutes offense found some momentum after the change in possession, as
Annie Latimer found Alldredge drving inside, and eventually halting the Regals scoring run. Getting everything they wanted, the Regals offense continued to pressure the Lutes defense throughout the second, peppering shot after shot, while Diller racked up numerous saves. Cal Lutheran's adjustments helped them find the back of the net six more times over the final 8:52 of the second, taking a 17-2 lead into the break.
With the clock running throughout the rest of the game, the Regals held the Lutes without a shot in the third quarter, meanwhile the opposition added five goals over a 9:44 stretch to continue on with a 22-2 lead after three quarters of play. The Lutes
Brandie Tobin and
Katrina Moran picked up yellow cards in the quarter, ending the night for the latter as she had two such cards on the game.
The final 15-minutes of play began with a short five-minute drought for both teams, but the Regals tallied a pair of goals while their offense controlled possession for the majority of the quarter. PLU ended their shot-drought with 5:56 left in the game, as Latimer's attempt hit the post and out. Cal Lutheran cruised to a 25-2 win over the Lutes in the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
"Looking at the score, it's a tough game, but the score doesn't tell you everything, and tonight we continued to make strides and we have a lot from tonight's game that we'll look to carry into Thursday and the rest of our season." Said Head Coach
Melanie Rizzotti.
Cal Lutheran filled up the stat sheet, taking 50 shots and going 11-for-11 on clear attempts.
Kassie Diller made a whopping 17 saves in the game, meanwhile Alldredge took six of the Lutes nine total shots in the game; scoring twice.
The Lutes will rest up on Wednesday before facing another southern California school on Thursday night on East Field, hosting the Occidental Tigers at 7 p.m.
