Alldredge Nets Five as Lutes Come Up Short Against Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore.--- The Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team (1-11, 0-5 NWC) came up short in a tough battle on the road against the Pacific Boxers (2-10, 0-4 NWC), 9-6. Freshman Taylee Alldredge nearly matched a career-best, scoring five-straight goals for the Lutes.

The Lutes took the opening draw control, but a Boxers check turned the ball over, leading to a Pacific goal with 13:55 remaining; coming shortly after Lia Zaboski picked up a yellow card. Annie Latimer and Kathleen Swankowski responded with a pair of shots of their own, but both couldn't find the back of the net. Pacific executed a successful free position shot moments later, taking a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Taylee Alldredge gathered the quick pass from Samantha Velasco Patino, beating the Boxer goalkeeper, and putting the Lutes on the board, 2-1. Alldredge's goal came while the Lutes were up two-men. Pacific responded with two goals just two-minutes later, extending their lead. But once again in a man-up opportunity, Alldredge fired a free position shot to the back of the net. She went back-to-back, scoring 67-seconds apart, making it a 4-3 game in favor of the Boxers.

At the end of the first quarter of play, Alldredge scored an early hat trick, as Velasco Patino found Alldredge, who scored her third goal of the game with just 27-seconds left. Pacific did their best buzzer-beater impression, scoring with eight-seconds remaining, making it 5-4 Pacific after one.

Alldredge took her three-goal run from the first, and continued her dominance into the second quarter, scoring 34-seconds in the period, tying the game back up at 5-5. The Boxer defense locked in from here, holding the Lutes scoreless for the rest of the half. Meanwhile, Pacific scored twice to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter of play saw just two shots, both from Pacific, with one of which sneaking past the Lutes goalkeeper, Kassie Diller, giving the Boxers a slim 8-5 lead entering the fourth quarter. With both teams sharing the same record in Northwest Conference play, they each tightened up, and made it difficult for either offense to score late in the game.

Swankowksi looked to add another tally to the goal column for her first season, as she fired three shots for the Lutes over the first six-minutes of the fourth quarter, with one finding the back of the net early in the quarter, cutting the Lutes deficit to two; 8-6.The first shot attempt for Pacific came with 2:18 remaining in the game, as it found the back of the net for an insurance goal. The Lutes came up short in their closest loss of the season, coming at the sticks of the Boxers on the road, 9-6.

Alldredge took six of the Lutes 12 total shots, with Swankowski and Latimer close behind with four and two. Swankowski's fourth quarter goal was the only score not to come from Alldredge for the Lutes, as the freshman scored five times; the most she's had in a game since she scored six times against Eastern Oregon in the season opener. Diller made four saves on Friday night, earning a 30.8% save percentage on 15 shots faced.

The Lutes compete in their final road contest of their inaugural season tomorrow afternoon in Newberg, Ore., set to take on the George Fox Bruins.
