TACOMA, Wash. — There will be plenty of hardhats on campus this summer as the Pacific Lutheran University Athletic Department has two capital projects being done over the months of June, July, and early August.
The Lutes will be upgrading the turf at East Field, a project that covers 138,000 square feet, while also converting the PLU Softball Field's infield from a dirt surface to a synthetic turf surface. That project at softball will cover 12,000 square feet.
Â
East Field is home to the Northwest Conference Champion men's and women's soccer programs, the PLU women's lacrosse team, and is the practice site for the Lute football team.Â
Â
"High performing athletic facilities are the cornerstone of ongoing successful collegiate programs," said Athletic Director
Mike Snyder.
Â
"Over the last four years we've turned a strong focus to the enhancement of all our facilities and I'm thrilled our men's and women's soccer, women's lacrosse, softball, and club teams will get to feel that enhancement with the turf projects this summer."
Â
Shaw Sports Turf will oversee the construction. A leader among synthetic turf companies and the largest American-owned and operated synthetic turf company in the world, Shaw has completed over 3,500 successful installations over the past two decades, including installs with the National Football League's Baltimore Ravens and Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins, Texas Rangers, and Tampa Bay Rays.Â
"Shaw is a leader in the turf industry and we're proud to provide these world class surfaces to our varsity athlete and the campus community."Â
Construction is slated to begin on June 16 and will conclude prior to PLU's athletic teams reporting in August. The PLU Athletic Department will provide updates throughout the construction process on GoLutes.com along with our GoLutes social media accounts on instagram, facebook, and X.Â
