Hulquist & Lemma lead 220 Lutes Named Northwest Conference Scholar-Athletes

HILLSBORO, Ore. --- On Friday, the Northwest Conference office announced their full list of the 2024-2025 NWC Scholar-Athletes. 1,971 student-athletes in the conference were highlighted for their performance inside the classroom and on the field of play. 220 Pacific Lutheran student-athletes earned the conference honors, requiring a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher while participating in the entire varsity season.

26 Lute student-athletes made the list that also earned First or Second Team All-Northwest Conference honors, while two were named Player of the Year, and one earned Rookie of the Year, in their sports.

The eighth-straight reigning conference champion Women's Soccer team led the way with 27 honorees, including Hannah Cecil who was named First Team All-NWC and the Offensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season. Closely behind, the Women's Track & Field team earned 22 on the 2024-25 list.

Kayden Hulquist of Women's Soccer and Grady Lemma of Men's Track & Field earned First Team Scholar-Athlete awards from the NWC.

Hulquist, a key member of the eight-straight conference championship-winning Women's Soccer team, earned First Team All-NWC honors and Third Team All-Region honors last Fall on the pitch. Off the field, Hulquist maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average, was a member of Chi Alpha Sigma honor society, a member of the Dean's list consistently, and also a founder of PLU's chapter of The Hidden Opponent; a student-athlete focused mental health club.

"Kayden Hulquist is an amazing example for this award," said Head Coach Seth Spidahl. "A 4.0 student, standout player for the Fall 2024 season, an amazing leader, and just an all-around awesome person. She truly exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete in every way on and off the field. I couldn't have asked for a higher character person to be a part of our program."

A Biology major, Grady Lemma represented the Men's side, as he earned First Team Scholar-Athlete honors. Lemma, a 10-time All-Northwest Conference honoree, earned a 4.0 GPA, while also representing the Lutes in the Chi Alpha Sigma honor society, and frequenting the Dean's List. Lemma also plays a key role on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), while also giving back to the community as a youth clinic counselor.

"Grady embodies exactly what it means to be a scholar-athlete. His commitment to his own personal growth and development is only second to his care for the betterment of his teammates and those he shares competition with. Grady has always led with passion and a love of competition, which is why he was a three-time team captain and someone who earned immediate respect from his coaches, teammates, and peers on the track."
