Lutes Stay Hot with Another Conference Win Over the Pioneers 2-0

Tacoma, Wash.--- The Pacific Lutheran woman's soccer team finished out the weekend with another Northwest Conference win over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 2-0 on Sunday.

"Very happy with today, it was one of our better attacking performances," Head Coach Seth Spidahl commented. "Things are starting to click offensively. We are making progress, but there's still a lot on my mind to work on and improve on. We have an extremely tough opponent with UPS coming up and we know how talented and well coached they are. We need to recover from this weekend and have a good practice then get after it on Wednesday."

The first half was back and forth ultimately resulting in a stalemate statistically and in thw halftime score of 0-0. Both teams were in total shots at five a piece, PLU had the advantage in corner kicks at 4-1.

The second half was a different story, Kiana Gutierrez opened up the scoring in the 46th minute capitalizing on a errand pass on the back line and beating the goalkeeper near post. The Lutes weren't finished, in the 52nd minute another pass was intercepted in the backfield and chipped ahead by Gutierrez clipping a Pioneer right on the doorstep for Liv Olson to guide past the Lewis & Clark goalkeeper giving PLU the 2-0 advantage.

Pacific Lutheran has now won five straight contests against Lewis & Clark outscoring the Pioneers by a total of 16-3. Abby Winkler and the Lutes defense notch their second straight shutout of the season. Winkler adds to her career total of shutouts at 21.
