SALEM, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran Univeristy women's soccer team blanked the Williamette University Bearcats 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Lutes improve their overall record to 3-2-3 and 3-0-1 in Northwest Conference play. PLU has a combined overall record pf 16-0-2 in their last 18 matches against the Bearcats with their last defeat coming in 2015.
"I was really proud of our second half performance today," Head Coach
Seth Spidahl noted. "It's a tough week, you know four games in eight days, its really challenging and I'm really proud of the players. We're excited to be where we are at and we have two days off next week. Can't wait to be back in front of our friends and family at home next week."
Both teams battled back and forth early on, but
Marie Piho broke the stalemate scoring in the 40th minute scoring off a loose ball in the middle of the box 1-0 PLU. Going in to halftime both teams had the same number of total shots at seven a piece. The Lutes came out in the second half with a sense of urgency outshouting the Bearcats 10-1.
Liv Olson opened up scoring in the second half nailing a header off a corner kick from
Olivia Boehm in the 48th minute to add to the lead 2-0.
Ally Tattar put the nail in the coffin just a couple minutes later blasting a one-timer from
Carmen Kiewert into the bottom corner to make the score 3-0.
Pacific Lutheran's defense has only allowed five goals all season with a .63 goals against average.
Pacific Lutheran returns to action on East Field Saturday, October 4th against Pacific University. Kick-off is set for 12 PM.
