HILLSBORO, Ore. — Pacific Lutheran University men's soccer student-athlete
Gio Aguilar-Gutierrez became the second Lute goalkeeper to win Northwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors this fall, earning recognition from the league office on Monday.
Aguilar-Gutierrez snags the award after making 10 saves last week while earning a clean sheet in a 4-0 shutout against crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound. The sophomore made three saves against the Loggers, including turning away a penalty kick early in the game while stopping seven shots in Saturday's road tie with Willamette University. The Spanaway, Washington native played all 180 minutes over the weekend and against the Bearcats had his 263-minute shutout streak ended, a stretch spanning across four games.
Aguilar-Gutierrez is the second Lute to secure NWC Player of the Week, following in the footsteps of fellow keeper
Chris Jamrok who was recognized on Sept. 8.
The two-time defending NWC Champion Lutes (4-3-1, 3-0-1 NWC) are back on the pitch on Saturday, hosting Pacific University at 2:45 p.m. at East Field.
