Manolovitz's Late Goal Lifts Lutes Past Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 road victory over Pacific University on Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium, with a second-half goal from Abby Manolovitz securing another Northwest Conference win for the Lutes.

PLU improved to 9-2-3 overall and 7-1-2 in conference play, while Pacific fell to 6-9 overall and 4-8 in the NWC.

Both teams battled through a scoreless first half, with each side recording five shots. The Lutes continued to search for an opening after the break, putting pressure on the Boxers' defense and creating opportunities in the attacking third.

The breakthrough came in the 76th minute when Manolovitz found the back of the net at 75:14. Jillian Retzlaff provided the assist, setting up the decisive goal that gave PLU a 1-0 advantage with less than 15 minutes remaining.

The Lutes' defense held strong down the stretch, keeping Pacific off the scoreboard to preserve the shutout and secure the road victory.

Goalkeeper Mia Speir played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves to earn the shutout. PLU finished with 12 shots, while limiting Pacific to eight shots and three on goal.

The Lutes continued to create chances in the second half, recording seven shots after halftime. Retzlaff's assist and Manolovitz's game-winning finish proved to be the difference in a tightly contested conference matchup.

The Lutes return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 21, hosting crosstown rival University of Puget Sound at 6:45 p.m. at East Field in Tacoma.
