WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Jayda Thomas finished two strokes off medalist honors, helping the Pacific Lutheran University women's golf team close the book on the fall season on Monday with a fifth place showing at Whitman College's Confluence Classic.
"We're very happy with the team's results. Some great efforts and a good trip overall. Jayda obviously led us again and was one under par today on a big tough golf course. What a fantastic round for Jayda. Combine that with a 75 yesterday and a second place finish. She continues to impress," said Head Coach
Al Patterson.
"We're real proud of Mari. Shot 83 yesterday then 82 today at Wine Valley in the first time she's ever played the course. Wine Valley's not the kind of golf course that you just show up and go out and play good on very often. It's got a lot of tricky shots so very happy with Mari and again good trip for the women and looking forward to the spring season."
Thomas led the way, tying for second overall with Whitworth University's Stella Fergin after shooting a 146. Thomas opened the tournament by shooting a 75 on Sunday at Veteran's Memorial Park Golf Club before shaving off four strokes on Monday, carding a 71 at Wine Valley Golf Club.
Mari Morris placed 19th overall, shooting a 164. Morris shot an 82 both days while
Kate Sabarillo was the third Lute in the top 25. Sabaraillo shot a 170, carding an 83 on Sunday and an 87 on Monday, finishing 25th overall.
Kathleen Pullin was 31st with a 185 (95-90) while
SeRi Park rounded out the Lute competitors, shooting a 193 (94-99).
PLU shot a 664 at the event, shooting a 334 at Veteran's Memorial and a 330 at Wine Valley. The Lutes finished 10 strokes ahead of Spokane Community College. George Fox University won the team title with a score of 589 (291-298) with the Bruins' Ashlyn Johnson earning medalist honors with a 144 (72-72).
