TUMWATER, Wash. — Jayda Thomas shot a 78 to earn medalist honors on Sunday as the Pacific Lutheran University women's golf team tallied a 14-stroke dual match victory over host South Puget Sound Community College.

The Lutes tallied a team score of 247, enjoying a sizable 14-stroke edge on the Clippers who carded a team tally of 261. Three golfers from each squad counted towards the team scoring in the dual match played at Tumwater Valley Golf Course.

Thomas topped the nine competitor field, shooting a six-over 78. Thomas recorded 10 pars during the round while netting a birdie on hole 18. Emily Alicea was two strokes back in second, carding an 80. Alicea had nine pars along with a birdie on hole 14. 

Kate Sabarillo rounded out the Lute scorers, tying for fifth with an 89. Maddie Downie was seventh with a 91 while Kathleen Pullin was one position back with a round of 93.

Jenna Kalar led the Clippers, placing third with an 85.

"Jayda was medalist with a 78.  She wasn't happy with her putting so that is exciting to think with good putting she could have been in the low 70's. Emily finished second with an 80. Emily's a solid player and is coming off an injury. She hasn't been able to practice too often so this is a great sign for her. I'm hopeful that Emily will continue to gain confidence with more play and practice," said Head Coach Al Patterson. 

"I'm excited to travel to George Fox next week and see how we do."

The Lutes are back in action next Monday for round one of the George Fox Invitational at Arrowhead Golf Club in Mollala, Oregon.
