Rowing Closes Out Roadtrip With Forward Momentum

Final Results

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Pacific Lutheran University women's rowing team closed out it's road trip at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Invitational with a strong display taking fourth place in both the varsity eight and 2V8 on Sunday morning.

"Amazing first races," Head Coach Matt Oclander expressed. "We went out there wanting to race really aggressively in the heats and get out of our comfort zones. The 1V was even with Bates, Wellesley amd WPI through the first third of the race in the B final to get their bow ball ahead to cross the line against Clark. The 2V8 were even with Clark in their final, but oar getting caught and flipping them over slowed their momentum. I'm proud of their support and fight to rally around each other and keep going."

The Lutes posted solid performances across their entries, highlighted by a strong effort in the varsity eight as Pacific Lutheran battled several nationally competitive crews throughout the race. The 1v8 finished with a time of 7:37 placing fourth in their hear. PLU also saw encouraging results from its second varsity boat, which continued to build rhythm and speed against a deep regatta field. The 2V8 notched a final time of 8:40 even after their boat troubles earlier in the race.

Pacific Lutheran's crews maintained steady pace through the course with much better conditions than day one.

"Huge thanks to Jason Steele and the WPI staff for being great hosts," Oclander mentioned. "The athletes had an amazing experience and we are ready to come back to the PNW and race at NCRC and WIRA."

The Lutes return to the water next weekend at the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Championships in Vancouver, Washington, where they will look to carry their momentum into conference competition.
