PARKLAND - Pacific Lutheran recorded its first shutout since the
season opener and Jordan Daniels headed home the only goal in the
35th minute as the Lutes defeated George Fox, 1-0, in a Northwest
Conference women's soccer match played Saturday.
Daniels scored her first goal of the season, rising to head home
Courtney Walker's corner kick 34:29 into the match. On the other
end of the field, the sophomore center back from nearby Sumner
helped the PLU defense limit the Bruins to only two shots on goal,
though they did get 13 total shots in the contest compared to
eight for PLU.
Aiding Daniels across the back line were senior Meredith Newby
and sophomores Danielle Williams and Kristina Snaring.
Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Chambard recorded two saves in goal for
the Lutes.
With the shutout, their first since a 1-0 home win over
Northwest University back on Sept. 2, the Lutes improved their
overall record to 3-8 and their Northwest Conference mark to 2-5.
George Fox is now 5-6 overall and also 2-5 in the conference.
The Bruins had the run of play in the first half, taking nine
shots to four for the Lutes. In the second half, however, PLU
tightened things up on defense and didn't allow the Bruins a really
good look at goal. The Lutes, on the other hand, had a great
opportunity in the second minute of the second half, but Bruins
goalkeeper Autumn Van Meter dove to her left to slap away Walker's
bullet from 18 yards out.
