Lutes Fall to Pacific in NWC Women's Soccer

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Lauren Kanda led Pacific with two goals and an assist as the Boxers won their third straight home match by knocking off Pacific Lutheran, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match played Saturday at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Kanda scored the game-winner in the first half, connected on a second half penalty kick and assisted on another second half goal as Pacific (4-4-1, 3-2-0 NWC) won their fourth match in their last six tries.

The goal scoring punctuated an afternoon where the Boxers had advantages in both shots (29-5) and corner kicks (7-0).  Pacific Lutheran (2-8-0, 1-5-0 NWC) managed just two shots on goal the entire match, one in each half.

Kanda accounted for the only scoring of the first half, collecting a ball deflected off of a PLU defender and shooting to the lower left corner of the net in the 11th minute. Kanda had plenty of chances at the net, putting up eight of the Boxers' 12 first half shots.

Jenna Matsumoto (netted an insurance goal in the 60th minute. Kanda set up the score with a long cross from near midfield along the right sideline. Matsumoto weaved in and connected from 15 yards out to the lower left corner past diving PLU goalkeeper Lauren Chambard.

Kanda finished the scoring in the 79th minutes with the Boxers' first penalty kick of the season.

Chambard made seven saves for the Lutes in 73 minutes in goal. Ivory Harvey made two stops while playing the final 17 minutes.

PLU returns to action next Saturday when it hosts the George Fox Bruins at noon.
