PARKLAND - Pacific Lutheran recorded its second consecutive
shutout and defender Jordan Daniels scored the
only goal of the match on a first-half corner kick as the Lutes
defeated Whitman, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference soccer match
played Sunday afternoon at the PLU soccer field.
With the victory, the Lutes improve to 3-9-1 overall and 3-6-1
in the Northwest Conference, while the loss drops Whitman to 5-9-0
overall and 3-8-0 in the conference.
One day after withstanding Whitworth's 29-1 shot advantage in
earning a 0-0 double-overtime tie, the Lutes again had to hold off
a team that had more ball possession.
The visiting Missionaries enjoyed a 15-6 advantage in shots and
put 12 of those efforts on frame, but for the second straight match
the PLU defense was up to the task. Keeper Lauren Chambard made 10
saves and her defense helped her out by clearing two would-be goals
off the line.
Daniels waited on the far post when the Lutes took their only
corner kick of the match. Kristina Snaring's
left-footed inswinger cleared a group of players directly in front
of goal and Daniels was there to get a knee to it, punching it into
the back of the net.
After that, it was up to Chambard and her defensive teammates to
hold off the Missionaries.
The Lutes ended up putting four of their six shots on goal,
forcing three saves from Lauren Brougham.
Pacific Lutheran returns to Northwest Conference action next
weekend when it plays at Linfield on Saturday and at Lewis &
Clark on Sunday. After that, the Lutes play three of their final
four matches at home, including an October 27 match against Puget
Sound starting at 3:30 p.m.
