PARKLAND - The visiting Pacific Boxers got goals from three
different players in defeating the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 3-1, in
a Northwest Conference women's soccer match played Saturday
afternoon at the PLU soccer field.
Pacific won for the third time against two conference losses and
is now 3-5-1 for the season, while PLU fell to 1-8-0 overall and
1-5-0 with their fifth straight conference defeat.
Tianna Homad gave the Boxers a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the
match, heading just enough of Kaitlyn Harper's cross to beat a
pair of PLU defenders and Lutes keeper Lauren Chambard.
The score stayed that way until 51:34 when Ashley Kanda, one of
the shortest players on the field, headed Teri Shigeno's cross past
PLU substitute keeper Ivory Harvey. Jenny Novak
made it 3-0 at 58:52, running onto a bouncing ball 15 yards out
from goal and striking a one-touch bullet to the upper right
corner, leaving Harvey no chance.
Pacific Lutheran got one back less than 90 seconds later when Brittney Bronson
headed home Kristina
Snaring's cross from the right wing. It was Bronson's first
goal of the season, but it turned out to be the Lutes' only one in
the match.
PLU had an 11-9 advantage in shots, but the Boxers put seven of
their efforts on target while the Lutes had only two on goal. PLU
midfielder Mimi
Granlund rattled the crossbar with a first half drive that
denied the Lutes what would have been a 1-0 lead.
Chambard and Harvey both had two saves for PLU while the Pacific
defense cleared a ball that resulted in the Boxers' only
save. Pacific enjoyed a 9-1 corner kick advantage.
