McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Christine Tamamoto scored one goal and
assisted on another as Linfield stayed in contention for a
Northwest Conference championship with a 5-0 win over Pacific
Lutheran Saturday afternoon at the Linfield soccer field.
The Wildcats tallied their fifth-straight win, all of them coming
by shutout. Opponents have struggled to create scoring chances,
attempting just 18 shots on goal against the Linfield (12-4, 10-2
NWC) defense during the Wildcats' win streak. Linfield controlled
the match from start to finish, outshooting Pacific Lutheran
(3-10-1, 3-7-1), 19-3. Olivia Lee and Karli Hurlbut had shots on
goal for the Lutes.
Tamamoto sparked the 'Cats with an early goal in the fifth minute.
Scoring on an unassisted shot, Tamamoto laced a strike just over
the head of Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper Lauren Chambard.
Leading scorer Emily Fellow scored 10 minutes later,
giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead with a shot into the right
corner of the net. Linfield outshot Pacific Lutheran 10-2 in the
first half.
Tamamoto added an assist in the 60th minute, setting up a
Stephanie Socoth score and giving the 'Cats a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Linfield added a pair of goals in the 84th and 86th minute. Emily
Grachek found the net first, scoring on an unassisted shot to the
top of the net, and Fellows put the exclamation point on the match
with her second score of the day.
Pacific Lutheran returns to action at noon tomorrow when it
faces Lewis & Clark in Portland.
