ATHERTON, Calif. - It was a weekend to forget for the Pacific
Lutheran baseball team as Menlo finished off a three-game
non-conference sweep with a 7-5 win on Sunday afternoon.
The Lutes, now 11-5 for the season, had more hits than the Oaks
for the third straight game, but again it failed to equate to a
victory. Menlo, now 9-8, had just five hits but also made the most
of four walks and a pair of PLU errors.
Ben Shively had two hits and three runs batted in to lead the
Lutes at the plate, but they left nine runners stranded and again
struggled to come up with a clutch base hit.
Nathan Eisenhauer took the pitching loss, allowing five runs,
three earned, on four hits in six innings. He walked four batters
and struck out one. Max Beatty pitched the final two innings,
giving up two earned runs on one hit. PLU pitchers were credited
with four hit batters and six wild pitches and the catchers
with two passed balls.
