TACOMA, Wash. – The University of Puget
Sound continued its recent run of success against Pacific Lutheran
in women's soccer, taking a 2-0 victory in a Northwest Conference
match played Wednesday afternoon at Baker
Stadium.
The first half was evenly played as both team
traded scoring opportunities. However, Jenny Moore was the only
player to find the back of the net as the Loggers (7-1-1, 4-1 NWC)
took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Moore swooped in on a
rebound after a great save by the PLU keeper Lauren
Chambard. Moore tapped the ball into the net to give the
Loggers a 1-0 halftime edge.
After allowing seven shots in the opening period, the Loggers
tightened up in the second half and kept possession for the
majority of the time. The Lutes (1-7, 1-4 NWC) did not fire
a shot in the closing 45 minutes, while the Loggers peppered
the PLU defense with 16 shots.
Theresa Henle finally padded the Loggers lead with a goal that
trickled into the corner of the net in the 81st minute. Henle
received a cross right at the top of the 18-yard box and squeezed
it into the net for a 2-0 Logger lead.
Chambard played 85 minutes and finished
with six saves, while UPS keeper Casey Thayer finished with three
saves.
With the 16-0 shot count in the second half, the Loggers outshot
the Lutes 25-7 in the match on the way to their seventh victory of
the year. Additionally, the win increased Puget Sound's winning streak
against PLU to 24 straight.
