Women's Soccer Ends Season With 6-1 Loss

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Pacific Lutheran saw its 2011 women's soccer season come to a rough ending on Saturday afternoon when the host Linfield Wildcats romped to a 6-1 Northwest Conference victory.

The Lutes couldn't handle the high-octane Linfield offense, which got goals from six different players. The win set a school record for the Wildcats, who ended up 14-3-3 overall and 11-2-3 in the Northwest Conference, good for second place.

Pacific Lutheran claimed the early advantage over the 'Cats, scoring in the ninth minute. Blake Warner crossed the ball from the left side of the box to Mimi Granlund, who headed it into the goal above the outstretched arms of Linfield keeper Taylor Collinsworth. The goal was the first of the season for Granlund, while Warner added her team-best fifth assist of the campaign.

By the end of the first half, however, the Wildcats had taken a 3-1 lead on goals by Christina Tamamoto in the 25th minute, MacKenzie Doty in the 37th minutes, and Zoe Langsdord in the 40th minute. The hosts out-shot the Lutes in the opening 45 minutes, 9-3.

Linfield dominated the second half with nine shots to zero for the Lutes, and its work paid off in goals from Anna Sours in the 58th minute, Ellie Schmidt in the 70th minute, and Sara Miller in the 87th minute.

Of Linfield's 18 total shots, 15 were on goal, and PLU keeper Lauren Chambard had to make nine saves just to keep the score as close as it was. In addition to having a big advantage in possession and shots, the 'Cats also had 12 corner kicks to none for the Lutes.

PLU ended the season with a 4-13-1 overall record and a 3-12-1 mark in the conference, good for seventh place.
