FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Kaylie Rozell's third goal of the season tied the match in the second period, and Pacific Lutheran and Pacific concluded the double-overtime contest with a 1-1 draw in Northwest Conference women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Park Stadium.
The Lutes' second consecutive 1-1 tie pushed their record to an even 2-2-2 overall and 0-0-2 in conference play. Pacific goes to 4-1-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the NWC. PLU returns to Oregon next weekend for a pair of NWC matchups against Lewis & Clark and George Fox.
"I was very proud of how we responded after going a goal down today," PLU head coach Seth Spidahl said. "Last year we ended up losing 2-0 down here after that happened. Today we found a way to score and tie the game up and got a valuable point on the road."
Following a scoreless first half, Pacific took a 1-0 lead less than three minutes into the second period. Taylor Gillespie sent a free kick pass to Kara Lankey, who headed the ball to McKenna Davidson for the finish. The Boxers held the advantage for nearly 20 minutes until Rozell tied it up off a pass from Lauren Larson in the 76th minute of play.
Pacific Lutheran out-shot Pacific 13-to-8 in the match, with the Boxers taking the only two shots of the first overtime period and the Lutes attempting the lone shot of the second. Marisa Gonzalez made one save while playing a scoreless first period for the Lutes, and Takara Mitsui made three saves while yielding one goal after coming in after halftime and tending the goal the rest of the way. Kayla Davidson went the distance in goal for the Boxers, giving up one goal while making three saves.
"Today was a hard fought-game as Pacific always competes and is a scrappy team," Spidahl said. "With the weather conditions the way they were it made it hard to play at times, so the game became more direct with the rain and the wind."
