PARKLAND - Pacific Lutheran Men's Soccer defeated Trinity Lutheran College in a complete blowout, 4-0. The Lutes, now 2-3-0, looked stronger and more dominant than their previous games.
The Lutes' domination began when Joel Frykholm, assisted by Bennett Bugbee, made the first goal of the game in the 35th minute of play. Frykholm scored for the Lutes from 16 yards out with a pass from Bugbee. A freshman, Joel Frykholm's goal was his first for the Lutes.
The Lutes continued their strong offence in the second half, scoring three more goals. In the 58th minute, Eddie Na showed his speed with another pass from Bennett Bugbee, Na broke free of the Eagles defense and made a clear shot from eight yards out. Also a freshman, Na's goal was his first for the Lutes. Na made his second goal for the Lutes two minutes later with another assist from freshman, Bugbee. Bugbee passed to Na, giving Na an opening to sprint close and score another goal for the Lutes from eight yards away. With his two goals of the game, Na became the leading goal scorer for the Lutes.
Nate Popp made the fourth and final goal of the game in the 85th minute with an assist by Rene Ramos from 10 yards out. This was Popp's first goal of the season.
The Lutes doubled their goal count for the season with this game alone.
PLU outshot TLC 18 shots to 14. PLU's shots on goal outnumbered TLC's 9 to 5. PLU's Mike Arguello made 5 saves in his 73 minutes of play before being substituted by Kyle VanderWaal for the last 18 minutes of play. TLC's Tim Knowels saved 5 shots as well, allowing 4 goals for the Lute in his 90 minutes of play.
The Lutes will finish their nonconference season Saturday with a game against Hamline at 7 p.m.
