LA MIRADA, Calif. – Pacific Lutheran wrapped up its men's tennis trip to California Wednesday as the Lutes fell 8-1 to Biola at Biola Tennis Center.
Sam Stadter picked up a win for the Lutes at the top of the singles ladder, as he defeated Tayven Townsend 6-3, 6-1.
"Sam stepped up and had a great day at number one," PLU head coach John Cassens said.
Philip Westwood defeated Sam Angel 6-2, 6-0 in the second singles match, while James Okubo pushed Brandon Chang to extra points in each set before falling 7-5, 7-5. Luke Mountain defeated Jeremy Marsh 6-0, 6-0, while Joe Turnquist took down Noel Oteng-Mensah 6-0, 6-2 and David Garcia closed out the singles round with a win over Alberto Leal.
The doubles round saw Biola win all three matches. Chang and Townsend defeated Stadter and Angel 8-3 in the first match, while Westwood and Mountain defeated Oteng-Mensah and Marsh 8-0 in the second match. Garcia and Turnquist held off Okubo and Leal 8-5 in the final doubles match.
Pacific Lutheran fell to 2-11 overall, while Biola improved to 10-8 this season. The Lutes return to action April 4, when they will visit Puget Sound.
"Now we're headed home and ready to finish our conference season strong," Cassens said.
