Lutes fall to 13th-ranked Whitman 9-0

LAKEWOOD – The Pacific Lutheran men's tennis team concluded its weekend Sunday, falling to 13th-ranked Whitman 9-0 at Lakewood Racquet Club.

Pacific Lutheran fell to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in Northwest Conference play, while Whitman improved to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the NWC. The Lutes return to action next Sunday, when they will host Whitworth at 10:30 a.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center.

"It was a tough day against Whitman," PLU head coach John Cassens said. "We had some strong doubles performances, and we look forward to building on that next week against Whitworth."

Robert Carter and Chase Friedman defeated Noel Oteng-Mensah and Jeremy Marsh 8-3 in the first doubles match. Phillip Locklear and Gary Ho defeated Alberto Leal and James Okubo 8-3 in the second doubles match, and Adam Rapaport and Alex Noyes teamed to take down Chris Erkkila and Will Lamora 8-3 in the final doubles match.

The singles round was more of the same. Friedman knocked off Oteng-Mensah 6-3, 6-1 at the top of the ladder, while Locklear defeated Okubo 6-1, 6-1 in the second match. Carter took down Leal 6-3, 6-0, while Ho defeated Marsh 6-2, 6-3. The final two singles matches saw Rapoport defeat Erkkila 6-1, 6-0 and Noeyes defeated John Woelfel 6-0, 6-0.
