Lutes head to Oregon for weekend matches against Lewis & Clark and George Fox

PARKLAND – Pacific Lutheran heads down to Oregon this weekend for a pair of men's tennis matches this weekend, as the Lutes visit Lewis & Clark Saturday at 1 p.m. in Portland before taking on George Fox Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in Newberg.

PLU narrowly fell to Willamette 5-4 in the Lutes' home opener Sunday. Jeremy Marsh and Chan Thourk claimed victories in the singles round, while Marsh teamed with Marcelo Hernandez-Gamez for a doubles win and Alberto Leal and Justin deMattos picked up a doubles win as well for the Lutes.

"I'm very happy with the way our team is handling some early-season adversity," PLU head coach John Cassens said. "We've had some healthy competition, and we will look to improve and get experience playing high-level tennis against some good opponents. Our goal is always to improve."

Lewis & Clark comes into the weekend with a 1-1 record after splitting a road trip last week against Whitworth and Whitman. Meanwhile George Fox is looking for its firs Northwest Conference win after falling to both Whitworth and Whitman on the road.

"Both Lewis & Clark and George Fox are very strong teams," Cassens said.

PLU historically has held the advantage against both teams, but the Lutes have not matched that success in recent years. PLU is 49-9 all-time against Lewis & Clark, although the Pioneers have won the last three matches between the teams. George Fox has won eight in a row in the series after PLU won the previous 23 matchups. The Lutes will look to change that this weekend.
