PLU Men's Tennis falls to Lewis & Clark in first match of Oregon trip

PORTLAND – The Pacific Lutheran men's tennis team opened its weekend trip to Oregon Saturday against Lewis & Clark, falling 9-0 to the Pioneers at L&C Tennis Dome.

James Okubo and Noel Oteng-Mensah put together the Lutes' strongest performance in doubles play, as the duo fell 8-3 to Raed Attia and Kevin Ross in the number one doubles match. Jeremy Marsh and DJ Pekoc fell 8-1 to Gordon Barrows and Brenden Barrows, and Justin deMattos and Chan Thourk fell 8-1 to Keane Hindle and Pim Trouerbach.

"James and Noel had an inspired doubles match, and DJ had a really strong first match of his career in singles play," PLU head coach John Cassens said.

Pekoc stepped into the singles lineup in the fifth spot and took on Harrison Collins, falling 6-2, 6-1. Okubo took on Attia at the top of the lineup, with Attia caliming a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Marsh fell 6-1, 6-3 to Gordon Barrows in the second matchup, while Ross defeated Oteng-Mensah 6-0, 6-3 in the third singles match. The fourth singles match saw Daniel Hahm defeat deMattos 6-3, 6-1, and Chan Thourk wrapped up the match for the Lutes in the sixth slot, falling 6-0, 6-0 to Brenden Barrows.

PLU heads to Newberg, Oregon, Sunday to take on George Fox at 10:30 a.m.
