TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad closed out its first home weekend inside the Sprinker Recreation Center on Sunday, falling 9-0 to Northwest Conference rival Linfield College.
Justin DeMattos and Niko Convento were neck and neck with the Wildcats' (2-4, 2-2 NWC) No. 2 tandem of John Lutaaya and Jose Luis Rojas before getting edged 8-6. Ryan Adams and James Okubo fell 8-3 at No. 1 doubles while Chan Thourk and John Woelfel were victims of an 8-2 scoreline.
Okubo kept pace with Ben McNair at No. 3 singles before stumbling, 6-4, 6-4, while Ryan Adams pushed Linfield's No. 1 singles player to three sets before suffering a, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1, setback.
"We were outplayed today by Linfield," said Head Coach John Cassens. "That said, we had strong performances by both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles along with James in singles."
The Lutes (1-3, 1-2 NWC) return to the courts on Saturday, making the trek across town for a rematch with the University of Puget Sound. PLU vanquished the Loggers 6-3 yesterday after sweeping all three doubles matches.
