LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's tennis squad showed its strength at the top of the lineup on Thursday evening but it wasn't enough to secure the dual match win, falling 7-2 to host Occidental College to cap off the Lutes' spring break tour of southern California.

"Our freshman really shined today in our final match of spring break," said Head Coach John Cassens. "We enjoyed our time in California but are excited to return home and begin the second half of the Northwest Conference season."

The Lutes' (3-8) Ryan Adams bested the Tigers' (4-7) Isaiah Bird, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles while Niko Convento needed three sets to emerge with the, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8, decision over Trevor Brown at No. 2 singles. Chan Thourk battled hard in a 7-5 opening set defeat at No. 5, but ran out of gas in the second set in a 6-0 setback.

Adams and James Okubo fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while Justin deMattos and Convento nearly pulled out the win before falling, 8-6, at No. 2.

The Lutes return to the courts on Saturday, traveling to McMinnville, Oregon to square off against Linfield College.
