TACOMA, Wash. - Chris Nussbaum finished third overall while
Kyle Rapacz and
Bo Frohock both finished inside the top 10 powering the Pacific Lutheran University men's cross country team to a second place showing on Saturday at the PLU Invitational.
Taking advantage of the familiar course, Nussbaum toured the 8,000-meter loop course around PLU Meadows in 25 minutes, 52.97 seconds, placing third overall and second among collegiate competitors.
Kyle Rapacz was eighth in 26:17.02 with
Bo Frohock less than a second back in ninth, crossing the tape in 26:17.88.
Jonny Maier was 15th in 26:36.39 while
Riley Wynn and
Bryce Johnson rounded out the Lutes' scoring five. Wynn crossed the finish 23rd overall in 27:15.71 while Johnson was 25th (27:21.12).
Trey Robak was 39th in 27:52.07 while
Tyler Wood was 43rd (28:02.16).
The Lutes placed second overall at the 11-team meet, finishing one point shy of team champion and Northwest Conference rival George Fox University. The Bruins seized the win with 57 points while the Lutes scored 58. PLU finished above five other NWC teams also competing in the race.
"It was a thrill to host a home meet for the first time in three years," said Head Coach
Adam Frye. "Our student-athletes reveled in the opportunity to compete on campus. We also enjoyed welcoming many family and alumni back to campus. It was a strong day of racing from the team and a nice step forward in our season."
Seattle Running Club's Dan Sloat (25:04.98) won the race with the University of Puget Sound's Colin Monaghan (25:07.07) the top collegian.
The Lutes return to action on Sept. 29, competing at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Oregon.
