TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team remained perfect in Northwest Conference dual meets, obliterating George Fox University 168-70 in Saturday's home opener at the PLU Pool.
"It was a fun day," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "We had some really good swims considering where we are in our training. The kids were really excited for the first home meet and showed it. We had good energy on the deck all day and our swims reflected that."
The Lutes set the tone early, with
Hayden Mortensen,
Seth Koivisto,
Alex Johannessen, and
Ethan Trieu winning the 200-yard medley relay in one minute, 38.48 seconds.
Trieu (1:47.42) and
Jared Toschi (1:53.44) went one-two in the 200-yard freestyle as did Mortensen (55.37) and
James Waltz (1:01.66) in the 100-yard backstroke.
Koivisto won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.71) by over five seconds while
Charles Cutter took top billing in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.66). Johannessen topped the field in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.83 while Trieu won his third race of the day in the 100-yard freestyle (47.77) with Cutter placing runner-up in 52.59.
Mortensen and Toschi claimed the top two spots in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:02.42 and 2:06.97, respectively before Toschi won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:00.57.
Johannessen,
Phillip Hecksel, and Mortensen went one-two-three in the 100-yard butterfly, registering times of 52.36, 57,36, and 57.98, respectively. Koivisto secured the win in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:01.98 before closing the meet with his fourth event win, collaborating with Trieu, Cutter, and Hohannessen to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.77.
Pacific Lutheran is back in action next weekend, competing at the George Fox Invitational in Newberg, Oregon.
