TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team continued its undefeated run through Northwest Conference dual action on Saturday at the PLU Pool. On Senior Day, the Lutes knocked off the Pirates of Whitworth University 135-70 for their ninth straight conference victory and 10
th overall.
The 400-yard medley relay team got things going in the right direction for the Lutes.
Kiyomi Kishaba,
Victoria Nguyenle,
Bailey Hamilton and
Lauren Kearney led off the meet with a victory, touching the wall in 4:06.77.
Hannah VanHeyningen won the first individual event of the afternoon as she cruised to a win (11:21.83) in the 1,000 freestyle. Hamilton achieved her second victory of the day when she touched the wall first in the 200 free (2:00.31).
Freshman
Claire Cranch continued to build PLU's advantage when her and Nguyenle went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley. Cranch finished in 2:13.63, while Nguyenle finished in 2:18.93. After the first break, Cranch topped the field again in the 200 butterfly. The freshman finished (2:09.73) nearly six seconds ahead of the next closest competitor. Cranch also achieved victory in the 500 free (5:19.00) to cap an outstanding afternoon.
Hamilton and Nguyenle were also victorious in the 100 free (54.77) and the 200 breaststroke (2:31.48), respectively. The foursome of
Sidney Chan-Orcutt,
Alex Shannon, VanHeyningen and Mundle won the final event of the dual, touching the wall in 3:49.35 in the 400 free relay.
The Lutes look to continue their undefeated regular season next when they travel to the Linfield College Friday night and Pacific University on Saturday afternoon. The meets begin at 6:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
