MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Alex Johannessen won a pair of events but it wasn't enough on Friday night as the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team fell short 129-76 to Linfield College in a Northwest Conference swim dual inside the Linfield Aquatic Center.
"The men had a strong day against a very powerful squad," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "Linfield is doing a lot of good things now and their team shows that. We competed very well, but came with a short hand. Overall, I'm impressed with how we competed."
The Lutes (4-2) started off the meet strong, with Johannessen teaming up with
Ethan Trieu,
Seth Koivisto, and
Hayden Mortensen to win the 400-yard medley relay in three minutes, 32.75 seconds. Johannessen would strike again in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:44.31 to win the event while finishing runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:50.72.
Koivisto and
Jeff Lozensky provided a one-two punch in the 200-yard breaststroke. Koivisto secured top billing after stopping the clock in 2:12.54 with Lozensky touching the wall in 2:16.94. Koivisto additionally placed second in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.72.
Trieu finished second in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.88) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.53) while the PLU 400-yard freestyle relay finished second in 3:26.19 to close out the meet.
Pacific Lutheran is back in the water tomorrow morning, facing Pacific University at 10 a.m. in Forest Grove, Oregon.
