Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Freshman
Kasidy Javernick had a career-high 21 points and the Pacific Lutheran University women's basketball team led for all but 23 seconds on Saturday night en route to a 72-66 victory over visiting Lewis & Clark College.
"I'm really impressed with how this group has come together," said PLU Head Coach
Tiffany Twiddy. "They are learning and patient with us. They are improving each day and we just want to have a chance in every game. I am so proud of their effort they giving us coaches and each other."
PLU held the advantage after each and every quarter, and led by as many as 11 with 7:46 left in the final quarter when Javernick completed an old fashioned three-point play. Lewis & Clark cut the lead to just five with 1:34 remaining in the game, but it was too little and too late for the Pioneers.
Javernick reached her career high by going 7-for-12 from the field and 5-for-7 from the charity stripe. She also had eight rebounds.
Ava Edmonds was a force in the pain for the Lutes, scoring 16 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.
Josie Napoli also hit double figures for the home team, scoring 15 points with six rebounds and four assists.
"Big game from Kas," said Twiddy. "She was taking every opportunity to get a bucket. Ava killed it on the boards. Our bench energy was huge. I am proud of this entire team."
The Lutes played some stifling defense, holding the Pioneers to just 29 percent shooting from the field and 4-for-25 from the three-point line.
The Lutes (5-10, 2-6 NWC) will play their third straight home game inside Olson Gymnasium on Tuesday when they host the Boxers of Pacific University at 5:00 p.m.
